Montana Troutfitters: May 12 Jefferson River Report

Buh bye, this is blowing out as we speak, not going to remain fishable (if it even is today) for much longer. With warm temperatures and rain in the forecast and the feeders growing flow wise (Big Hole and Beaverhead and Ruby are all rising) this is probably not going to stay fishable for too long. If it's dry fly fishing that you are looking for, this isn't going to be the place anymore until later in the summer again. When you start to see flows spike on this one then all bets are off - eventually runoff is going to come and when it does, then this won't be an option any longer.

If you are going to fish this at all it's going to be streamers, fly wise we'd highly reccomend big and ugly things over here - the Home Invader series in Yellow and Olive would be a good go to, Sex Dungeon's and Fatheads are another couple of good bets, and the newer big bucktail stuff has been productive too. Bottomline you should probably have a sink tip on so that you can get the fly down a bit and put it in front of their face...

Fly pattern suggestions:
Dries: Not the clarity for anything to bother with right now...

Nymphs: Don't bother, fish streamers...
