Montana Troutfitters: May 12 Gallatin River Report

The Gallatin is a little off color right now, and will be fishable for a day or so, so hurry up and get out there. Once the Taylor's Fork goes, the river will be blown until after runoff.

Nymphing or throwing streamers might be your best bet to catch fish right now over there. Throwing something big, dark, and ugly will help entice some of those fish. If you are nymphing, we have had some good reports of people fishing smaller black stonefly patterns and trailing a small baetis or caddis nymph off the end. Just realize the more off color the water is, the harder it is for those fish to spot your flies.

Streamer wise throw a big, darker colored sex dungeon or something that will move a little bit of water. We have a great selection of flies so pick up a few before you head out.
