Montana Angler: May 16 Lower Madison Fishing Report

The Lower is a great option in the early spring. The wind can blow pretty good on some days on Ennis lake and this can stir up sediment in the shallow upper 
section of the lake that will then move into the Lower. This can change day by day. When the clarity is decent (and it doesn't need to be a lot) the fishing has 
been very good on the lower. The Mother's Day Caddis is now on the lower river and will only intensify over the next two weeks. Baetis and March browns are 
also great hatches on the lower when the weather turns south and we have some overcast and rain. Water temps are coming up fast and streamer fishing will 
also become better. Nymphing worms, crayfish and baetis nymphs or caddis emergers is always productive. We've had guides out nearly every day and fishing 
has been consistent while nympinbg crayfish and caddis pupae. Dry fly fishing should kick in now that some overcast weather has settled in
