Big Sky Anglers: May 15 Upper Madison River Fishing Report

Below Hebgen – 1210 cfs….up a little

@ Kirby – 1420 cfs….Cabin Crk is puking mud, West Fork is clear

@ Varney – 1700 cfs……up 300 from 3 days ago

The Madison River can be tough at times when it is on the rise. Currently, she is very fishable (green) with about 3 feet of visibility and with the cooler weather in the forecast, I would expect her to drop back down a little. The next few days are calling for clouds….are there March Browns in the forecast as well? Hopefully so. Will the fish get on the bite as the river drops? They should. We might even get luckily with a clear river for May 21st – the Opener. There is more ice melting off Quake, I made a few cast today, but didn’t bump a fish. There are tons of anglers around inbetwix and I witnessed a vehicle driving out from the down the road to the shitter. Hmmmmmm……that’s a first. Cabin is throwing mud about half way across the river….now one needs to get to the other side for clear water.
